Why are telecom companies pushing 4G ?

发布时间:2016-09-06
3G is supposed to reach 42 Mbps, but in India, I've seen an avg. of 6 Mbps in metropolises during night, even under the line of sight of a mast, across providers. So why are ISPs pushing 4G when their networking infrastructure limits the speeds to 6 Mbps avg.? It's not limited by 3G protocol, right?

I see the above as two questions

Q1 - Why are operators moving to 4G instead of making 2G/3G better

A1 - Because the new the technology, the more efficient it is. For the same amount of spectrum, you can get more out of 4G then 3G and a lot more than 2G. You can see some spectral efficiency comparisons here - Spectral Efficiency Comparison

Q2 - Why is the coverage so poor by my operator in India

A2 - This is similar to my other answer here: Why is cellular data infrastructure, network and speed so poor in India?

Hi! You are getting a little confused between 3G and HSPA.

When telecom companies advertise their speeds, they always advertise their maximum theoretical download speed(evil marketing strategy).

A 3G Network has a maximum theoretical download speed of 7.2 Mbps(Mega-bit not Mega-byte) and upload of 3 Mbps.

An HSPA+ Network has a maximum theoretical download speed of 42 Mbps(You got confused here) and upload of 6 Mbps.

There are a number of factors that will affect your internet speed like:

Network Coverage

Your network coverage depends solely on the availability of transmission towers of the network service you are using. Not all service providers have towers that cover all areas especially in the rural areas and network service in these areas can be very weak.

Obstruction

Weak coverage can also be caused by obstructions both natural and man-made such as buildings, forests, mountains or variations in landscape which blocks signal. If the phone signals get blocked, your network coverage will deteriorate.

Network Congestion

Network congestion happens when the telecommunications networks become congested or "overcrowded" when everybody uses the network at the same time. When the network is congested, it "drops out" a ‘packet’ which can carry either a data or voice connection.

The telecom companies on their part, do their best to implement the speed they advertise. Due to the above factors, you do not get the promised speeds.

Yes I agree With you. Infrastructure is not Good. Small villages now receiving Edge and GPRS Networks They still Don't know about 3G or 4G. But Metro Cities Are developing so Fast and competition is more. So Network providers think if they bring first new technology then they will be more popular among users and media. Everywhere their advertisement will be shown first to bring This technology. So Now I'm using 3G+ Network which is good but not What they told to me. they said the downloading speed will be 2 mbps but I'm receiving 500kb. the plan is 10 mbps lol. This Are marketing tricks. The Towers Are old And they are not being updated with new technology how can we get 4g network from that old towers. The Simple Answer is because of Competition and To get the Credits of We Did it First.
